Remote ID Extended

Remote ID is a digital license plate for your drone that broadcasts altitude, location, and registration number. This is available for the public to view, but only law enforcement and the FAA can access pilot details. The idea is to identify drones that are flying where they should not be. Remote ID technically launched last Saturday September 16, however the FAA has announced that the next 6 months they will not be enforcing remote ID. The idea of this extension is that you should go out and equipment your drone with Remote ID if it doesn’t already have it built in. Starting March 16, 2024, operators could face fines and suspension or revocation of pilot certificates if found without Remote ID. Learn more here.

One piece of good news, if you have a drone less than 250grams AND you fly recreationally, you don’t have to have Remote ID. Add that to the list to reasons why I suggest the DJI Mini 3 Pro. If you can wait, rumors are the DJI Mini 4 Pro will likely be released around holiday time.
